Each poodle is different, and\nthe breed itself has needs and health concerns that will increase the\ncosts. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are poodles expensive to own? <strong>Monthly costs for poodles will be dependent on the type of poodle, health needs, age of the poodle, and other factors. On average, monthly poodle costs are between $80 to $150 but can be much higher if your poodle needs anything in addition to basic supplies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When choosing the\ntype of poodle to get, and when you decide how you will obtain your\npoodle, it is important to consider the independent costs and the\nfactors involved. To start, the age of your poodle, how you obtain\nyour poodle, and the type of poodle you choose will play a big part\nin deciding the initial costs of having your canine friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-five-types-of-poodles\">The Five Types of Poodles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 5 main\ntypes of poodles. Each with their own distinguishable features,\npopularity, and costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Standard\n\tpoodles<\/strong> are the largest of the poodle breed. They often weigh\n\tbetween 45 and 85 pounds and stand around 20 inches tall.\n\t<\/li><li><strong>Miniature\n\tpoodles<\/strong> are mid-sized&#8211;typically around 11-15 inches tall. They\n\talso weigh about 15-18 pounds.\n\t<\/li><li><strong>Toy\n\tpoodles<\/strong> are the smallest of the American Kennel Club-Recognized\n\tsizes. They weigh less than 10 pounds, and they are usually between\n\teight and ten inches tall. \n\t\n\t<\/li><li><strong>Klein\n\t(Moyen) poodles<\/strong> are similar in size to the standard size\n\tpoodles, though they often weigh only between 40 and 50 pounds. They\n\tare also not recognized by the American Kennel Club as an official\n\tsize variant. \n\t\n\t<\/li><li><strong>Teacup\n\tpoodles<\/strong> are also not recognized by the American Kennel Club size\n\tvariants, but they are the smallest size in poodles. They typically\n\tweigh between 5 and 7 pounds and suffer from many health issues due\n\tto being bred to be exceptionally petite.\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-obtain-your-poodle\">How to Obtain Your Poodle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"purebred-dog-breeder\">Purebred Dog Breeder<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that\nextra care and precaution were taken to assure the quality and breed\nof the dog. The two types commonly bred in these situations are\n\u201cshow\u201d quality and \u201cpet\u201d quality. There is no quality assurance regarding breed or type of poodle you may receive, and there may also be dangers related to the circumstances they are being bred or kept. It isn\u2019t uncommon for backyard breeders to get into the gig due to their animal getting pregnant accidentally or simply to make extra cash. They generally have no expertise and may not take the best care of the animals they are selling.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Backyard breeders generally sell their poodles between $800 and $1,500. <\/strong>It is common to come across these breeders out of a car or at a local flea market. You may also see them post on social media without proof of breed. It is not likely there will be a registration with the AKC or other pedigree papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"puppy-mill-and-import-breeder\">Puppy Mill and Import Breeder<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These breeders or\nimporters are in it only for the money. They are notorious for\nmistreating the animals and take measures to reduce the likelihood\nthey will go to jail for animal cruelty by shipping animals from\noverseas. These breeders sell their puppies at lower costs to pet\nstores compared to other breeders, but they still make a substantial\nprofit in order to keep mistreating and selling animals. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"signs-to-watch-for-to-avoid-puppy-mills-and-import-breeders\"><strong>Signs to watch for to avoid puppy mills and import breeders:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The breeder has not asked you questions about yourself or your home.<\/strong> This is a warning sign as a breeder should be concerned about the future well-being of their animals. <\/li><li><strong>There are no records or proof of medical treatments or check-ups. <\/strong>This means that they either have not seen the dog\u2019s health, or they are hiding a possible problem or illness. <\/li><li><strong>The breeder sells their dogs to animal stores. <\/strong>Proper breeders just don\u2019t do this as they know how harmful it can potentially be for the animals. Pet stores, for one, have no humane way of keeping animals cared for and safe. There are also plenty who will dispose of these animals to kill shelters if they aren\u2019t purchased quickly. <\/li><li><strong>The breeder won\u2019t let you see the puppy\u2019s mother. <\/strong>This is a really good sign that something is not right for the mother, the other animals they may have, or even the environment where they are kept. <\/li><li><strong>Their puppies are dirty or not taken care of. <\/strong>If they look unclean, malnourished, or otherwise mistreated, not only should you avoid this breeder, but you should call authorities.  <\/li><li><strong>The Breeder is unaware and unknowledgeable. <\/strong>If a breeder doesn\u2019t know information pertaining to the animal, breed, type, or even who the stud for the dog is, then there is something wrong. A proper breeder should have information for all of their animals in their care. <\/li><li><strong>The breeder doesn\u2019t feed the dogs high-quality food. <\/strong> A proper breeder cares about what their animals consume and understand it can change the outcome of their future well-being. Helping a shelter puppy, or more likely an adult poodle can reap rewards for both you and your newest family member. For one, you can typically avoid having to potty train or assist in teething.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The typical\ncost of a shelter adoption will range in price from $50 all the way\nto $600 or even more. <\/strong>Each shelter is different, and you should\nmake sure the rescue organization is registered correctly. However,\nsome shelters focus strictly on finding their animals a new home and\nnot on the income they could receive. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rescue\norganizations will likely offer assistance and resources for new pet\nowners. They are also going to have advice that you should listen to\nrelating to how the dog was living before coming to them. However, it can happen. You will want to have them checked out to see if they have a chip implant with owner and vet information in case someone\u2019s poodle simply decided to wander too far from home and found you interesting enough to stick around a bit. Not every animal that runs from home is being mistreated, but there is a possibility, so seek out a vet or someone else who can check for a way to find its home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nStray dogs will need a wealth of medical check-ups, screenings, blood work, tests, treatments, and even spaying or neutering. <strong>Typical costs range from $300 to $500<\/strong> to start if nothing is seriously wrong. Stray dogs may also need training, so keep that in mind before taking your found pup home.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cost-of-training-a-poodle\"> Cost of Training a Poodle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> If you hire a trainer, <strong>the cost usually runs approximately $50 per class <\/strong>and can amount to roughly <strong>$2,000 per month<\/strong>, on average. Potty<br>training mats,<br>stain removers,<br>carpet cleaners<br>and deodorizers are just some of<br>the costs related to potty training a puppy.  <br> <\/td><td>Puppies are<br>harder to train<br>than older dogs due to their<br>active natures. It is not<br>impossible, but<br>it is more likely<br>to train an<br>animal\u2019s<br>behavior when<br>they are a bit<br>older. This is the training that<br>helps them<br>learn how they behave around people and in<br>situations. <\/td><td> As with<br>behavioral<br>training,<br>obedience<br>training will<br>come easier and with more<br>consistent<br>results. This<br>training teaches your dog what<br>is expected with commands of<br>various sorts.<br>This is also<br>where they<br>would learn<br>how to lay<br>down, sit, and so on. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n\t\t\t<strong>Adolescence<\/strong>\n\t\t<\/td><td> While dogs are<br>typically potty<br>trained while in the puppy stage of life, some are not.  <\/td><td> This is an<br>excellent stage<br>in life to start<br>more advanced<br>training. It is<br>ideal to begin<br>behavioral<br>training in<br>adolescence<br>after the basics<br>that was<br>presented in<br>puppyhood. <\/td><td> Obedience<br>training should be presented to your dog in<br>puppyhood but not trained<br>heavily until<br>adolescence.<br>Dogs are more<br>likely to catch<br>on as they grow. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n\t\t\t<strong>Adulthood<\/strong>\n\t\t<\/td><td> It is important<br>to remember<br>those animals<br>who are moved often will likely need<br>adjustment time and be taught<br>where they<br>should potty in<br>the new area. <\/td><td> Behavior<br>training is most often taught in adolescence but is regularly<br>needed in<br>adulthood for<br>animals being<br>adopted or<br>rescued. <\/td><td> Adult dogs have typically already learned a bit of obedience<br>training.<br>However, adult dogs are still<br>more than able<br>to learn some<br>new tricks. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> <strong>Senior<\/strong><\/td><td> As dogs get<br>older, their<br>bladder and<br>bowel<br>functionality<br>may change,<br>and you may<br>need to provide training pads<br>for your dog<br>once again.<br>Older dogs don\u2019t always have<br>control over<br>their bodily<br>fluids or their<br>health may call<br>for other<br>measures to be<br>taken. <\/td><td> A senior dog is not ideal to<br>start training<br>and will likely<br>require less<br>training if they have not<br>already been<br>taught expected behavior. <\/td><td> Obedience<br>training of a<br>senior animal<br>will need to take into<br>consideration<br>any medical<br>needs of the<br>animal. Not all dog\nbreeds will have these costs or demands for their health and\nwellbeing, but they are common and often required for Poodles of all\ntypes.
